I am honored to photograph your newest addition.

Welcoming your little one into the world is a moment to treasure, and newborn photography is a beautiful way to preserve those early days forever. Whether you’re visiting my studio in Middle Georgia (Kathleen) or opting for a lifestyle session at home, here are tailored tips to ensure your newborn session goes smoothly and results in timeless images.

For Studio Sessions:

When you visit my studio, I’ll have everything set up for a stress-free and cozy experience. Here’s how you can prepare:

1. Timing is Everything

• Newborns are best photographed within the first 5-14 days of life, as they’re sleepiest and easiest to pose during this period.

• Plan your session before your baby arrives, and we’ll adjust the date once your little one makes their debut.

2. What to Bring

• Essentials: Bring plenty of diapers, wipes, and an extra bottle (if applicable) to keep your baby content throughout the session.

• Snacks for Parents: Sessions can take a few hours, so feel free to bring water and light snacks to keep yourself comfortable.

• Sometimes if the siblings are very active or restless it would be a good idea to drive in two cars so one parent can take the other children home before the session is over.

3. Dress for Simplicity

• For your baby: Dress them in a loose onesie or simple swaddle to prevent marks on their skin.

• For parents and siblings: Choose soft, neutral tones without patterns or logos to ensure the focus stays on your newborn.

4. Trust the Process

• I have a fully equipped studio with cozy props, wraps, and backdrops ready to use. You don’t need to bring anything except your baby (and maybe a sentimental item or two).

• Relax and enjoy the experience — I’ll take care of the rest!

For In-Home Lifestyle Sessions:

If you prefer a more candid, relaxed approach, a lifestyle session in the comfort of your home is a perfect option. These sessions capture the essence of your family in your natural environment.

1. Prepare Your Space

• Light is Key: Choose rooms with lots of natural light, like the nursery or living room. Open curtains and blinds to let in as much light as possible.

• Declutter: You don’t need a picture-perfect home! A quick tidy-up of the spaces we’ll use (like removing clutter from nightstands or dressers) helps keep the focus on your family.

Bump up the temperature to make sure your newborn is comfortable in diaper poses or with exposed skin.

2. Dress Comfortably

• For lifestyle photos, cozy and casual is the way to go! Neutral tones or soft pastels work beautifully for everyone involved.

• Don’t stress about perfection these photos are about real, heartfelt moments.

3. Incorporate Sentimental Details

• Bring in personal touches like a handmade blanket, family heirlooms, or special nursery decor to make the photos unique to your family.

4. Stay Relaxed and Flexible

• Babies are unpredictable, and that’s okay! We’ll take breaks for feeding, diaper changes, or soothing as needed.

• The goal is to capture genuine moments, so let your baby take the lead while I document your family’s love and connection.
